What To Bring To The Laundromat: A First-Timer’s Checklist

Whether you are traveling, have just moved into an apartment without in-unit laundry, or your washing machine is broken, sometimes you have to go to a laundromat. If you have never used a laundromat before, it may seem intimidating. If you are not sure what to bring to the laundromat, here is a checklist for your first time!

1. Your Laundry

You may think this is pretty obvious for a list of what to bring to the laundromat, but it’s a good idea to think ahead about your laundry. Bring it to the laundromat in pre-sorted loads, so you don’t have to do any sorting once you get there. You may also want to pre-treat any tough stains you’re hoping to get out so that you can get started as soon as you get there.

2. A Payment Method

In the past, it was pretty much a requirement to pick up a roll of quarters before a visit to the laundromat, in order to pay for the machines. These days, payment methods can vary from place to place, so you may want to call ahead or check the website. Many modern laundromats have machines that take debit or credit cards or use an app for payment. Here at Revolution Laundry, we have cashless machines, and we have a kiosk you can use to put cash on a special laundry card.

3. Detergent and Dryer Sheets

If you are on a budget, it is important to remember to bring your own laundry detergent and dryer sheets. Most laundromats sell small containers of detergent, but at a markup. Bringing your own supplies also keeps you in control of any fragrances being used on your clothing.

4. A Laundry Basket or Bag

When thinking about what to bring to the laundromat, it’s easy to forget to bring a way to transport your clean clothes home. Laundry baskets are a great option, or you could use a mesh bag.

5. Something To Do

Laundry takes a while, so make sure you don’t get caught with no way to stay busy at the laundromat. Many laundromats have tables and wifi, so you can bring your laptop and get some work done. You could also bring a friend and a board game and play while you both do your laundry. A book or a handheld gaming system would also work well.

Now that you know what to bring to the laundromat, you are ready to go get your clothes clean! Revolution Laundry offers a clean, modern space with cashless machines, as well as free wifi. We have vending machines in case you get hungry or thirsty, and we often have complimentary beverages like coffee available. We even have an arcade on site, where you can keep busy and win prizes like free laundry!
